I've always liked this song.So does my granddaughter -- the Sugarland version.Except her translantion, listening to the words in country, is that it's "Laugh in a Northern Town"Which kind of takes the heart out of it.

Sugarland sucks. They tried to over "country fry" it. Besides, they didn't even write it. Sugarland did it purely for the money, not for the artistic value.

I agree the people in the north was shit on now look at the price we are paying for that 2 bit dog that run the UK in the 1980s and she lied to us all now we pay the price as she sold everything off electric water gas phone and she still gets 150.000 a year for doing nothing bit sitting on her old fat backside as we suffer paying the bills as there is pits left

For those of us raised in the North, certainly in the 70's and 80'sa during the general and Miner's strike, this song will strike a cord, forever.Did you realise what your parents and grandparents suffered to give you a greater future, we all think so, but do we really understand that rough but all encompassing Northern love?We played this at my Nanna's funeral, and since I ws 16 (admittedly with beer or a few wee drams) this one always pulls the heart strings!
