I read "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" as a teenager, and I was fascinated by it, if only owing to my total ignorance of most of the subjects discussed. It's a good story, but it's been definitively exploded for quite some time now. The whole thing was a hoax on the part of Plantard and his associates. The HBHG authors further exploited the legend, and the town is now a tourist trap, as you can see from all the descriptive plaques in this video.

As a note, coming from a Latinist: Terribilis is better rendered as "frightening" (i.e. from the verb terreo - I am frightened) - "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" is a good piece of work. - More research should be done to validate the authenticity of his work, if he's right it would change Christianity forever. That's why I think it should be tested. autem veritas vos liberabit

In Latin, the order of the words in a sentence doesn't matter (not always, at least). "Place that dreadful is" is not a correct translation, but "That place is dreadful" is.

The writing over ther door says "TERRIBILIS EST LOCUS ISTE" and is latin for "This place is terrible". Inquiring minds should read the book "holy blood, holy grail".
