I think you are quite right canadianbuck77. My first message was confused by so much editing to keep under the count limit. Yes I agree that fault is with KLM for proceeding to takeoff without tower permission.

I think it was the KLM's fault for taking off without permission before the PA could get off the runway.

Wind1308 there are two episodes of Mayday pertaining to Pam Am. One is the Lockerbie terrorist attack. The other is the Canary Islands ground collision between Pan Am and KLM aircraft. KLM took off without clearance, and heavy fog caused the Pan Am crew to become confused and turn onto the wrong runway exit and into the path of the departing KLM jet. Too bad some poor decisions were made in the 80's that led to bankruptcy. Aviation has never been the same since the end of this glorious airline.

I fly Pan Am from Sydney to LAX to Rio 3 times, last time when I was thirteen. I still remember the wonderful experience. Thre crew was very nice and friendly and the pilots were Cheerful. unlike today, some are ok but now the flying experience is not like what it used to be.

im so jealous of everybody who got to fly Pan Am. I was never able to because i wasn't born yet. it looks wonderful. When they invent a time machine, thats on of the first things im doing

I was lucky flying on several occasions with them (707 & 747).since then i`ve never flown with a better airliner. Pan Am were the best in the world and hardly any airline can beat that....Until today.
