That's interesting. If that's the case, then the kids of those Filipino's who came to the U.S. sure didn't know. I grew up in an area known as "Little Manila" and everybody used the word "Flip". The only derogatory term was to call someone an F.O.B. At least that's how it was where I grew up.

"Flip" was coined derogatorily during the Filipino-American War, and was used by American soldiers to belittle the native Filipinos. "Flip" is an acronym for "F_cking Little Island People".
