My cats love this video. I put it on and they both jump onto the desk to get as close as they can. :)

I have four canaries and when I got them I had no idea what they were. I also played videos from yt including yours and right away one of them began to sing . So far that is the only one. I will continue this as he is young yet and a little ruff around the edges. The more I play it ...The better he gets. I have 2 American singers ans 2 Glosters and it is one of the Glosters that is singing .

I have a canary that builds nests and mounts the supposed male bird. It sings but not fully, its more like the sound of a person whistling softly and rapidly. I have a feeling its a hen, as it makes nests and accepts food from males, but I dont know why it mounts the male bird.

If it sings, it's a male. Sometimes females will perform calls, but not songs, but this is somewhat rare. Otherwise, during breeding season -Spring- if there is a very clear protrusion where you might guess a penis is that protrudes out and a cone-like end versus a very round rear end, then it's a male.
