They throw away honda's marvellous 300hp supercharged engine for some crappy turbocharged GM Ecotec with 245hp? Not only do you get less horsepower but you also have the turbo lag to contend with and you'll still pay the same road tax because both engines are 2.0 litre. What the **** were they thinking?!
PseudoScienceb20 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
A GM ecotec over a Honda vtec K20? Leno was being patriotic, and not thinking like an engineer. The K20 is Honda's finest jewel, and the 4 cylinder GM motor was made while GM was dragging its feet, while being forced to follow the 4-cylinder market. Honda has been polishing 4-cylinder designs for decades now.

From what I know both engines are supercharged... I used to fabricate/weld for Brammo(actually I'm the guy welding the "metal eyes to the flange") and I only knew of two cars with turbos, the rest were supercharged

oh sorry didnt see it said rover.

Ariel US's website says their engines are still Honda K20's. To be honest, I'd rather have the supercharged Honda than the GM.

i'm talking about the rover 1 which came out 1983/1984 launched 1.4-litre 16v. then made a 1.6 & 1.8 16v. the 1.8 16v k-series ROVER engine has been used in kit cars and some 4x4's even in open wheel sports cars (in the UK) through out the 80's an 90's (ie, Caterham and Lotus) also used in the first Atoms b4 they put a Honda engine in (yes also called k-series).I was talking about the rover cos we can get both engines in the UK, known to most brits as K-series (Rover) & Vtec (Honda)
hondac93 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
the K-series is a 2.0 its a K20A
sniper1724 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
how much for one?
UKnick80 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
don't know what trim levels there are, but there isn't alot of anything in the atoms. Also the K-series engine is a 1.8 non-turbo rover engine, it's the base model in the uk and i've been told it's not great. lack of power. |
